Warriors: Activate

Don’t you just wish that sometimes you had an emergency STOP button? When life starts to press in around you; when it’s all becoming too hard or too overwhelming it would be so good to just be able to hit a button and make it all stop. Unfortunately, life is not at all like that. But we do have some options that can help us get through anything life throws at us. We can call in backup and Activate our warriors.

For many of us, we have to battle daily with issues ranging from loneliness, to health problems, financial issues and relationship breakdowns. The process is often long and drawn out – spanning months and years. Some of us never really get through to see the end of the issue, but have to learn to walk life with it.

I often find myself watching tv shows and getting so frustrated because they never really truly tackle real life issues… I mean, sure, some shows do deal with very serious topics, and quite often it’s not necessarily dealt with within the confines of the shows time slot. But when was the last time you watched a show that consistently showed the monotony and loneliness of the early years of motherhood? When was the last time you saw a show that dealt with the long and drawn out financial battles some people face? The ones that can’t be fixed with rich parents coming to the rescue or banks forgiving debts. And have you ever gotten to the end of a movie only to think – I wonder what life will be like for that couple in 5 years time, when life throws a curve ball?

Life can be exhausting, frustrating, painful and overwhelming. And sometimes, that is all it seems to be. It can be hard to catch a glimpse of the good. It can be hard to see where the joy is. What I know to be true is that it IS there – we just have to look for it. But when life is already tricky and we are struggling, one more thing can be “the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

I found myself there recently. In a place where one more thing came flying at me and I just felt like it was all too much. In the moment it was easy to remember that God has this. He is bigger and greater and better, and all I need to do is look to Him and He will get me through. But as time moved on, those little lies the enemy likes to throw at us began to plant themselves in my mind. They had me questioning all sorts of things, from my self-worth to the love of other people. It took everything in me to gain my composure and remind myself that I did have “backup.”

Firstly – this passage came to me:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:4-7

God planted this in my mind right there in the moment. It reminded me that the best weapons we have are that of PRAYER and PRAISE.

The praise things comes pretty naturally to me. I find that even when I don’t have my own words to say, that there is always a song that finds its way into my heart and then my voice, to be able to thank God for all He has already done. Songs that remind me of His faithfulness, His goodness, His mercy, His grace, His love and His provision. Songs that are essentially prayers to music – that’s all worship music is… prayers put to music.

Prayer I can also do, but when your mind is already clouded and the enemy is trying everything to get at you, sometimes it helps to call in back up! Or as I said to my friend: “to activate my prayer warriors.”  We all have people around us that we trust completely. I have been blessed with some incredible friends that are amazing at helping to carry my burdens. Those who I have come to learn are loving, caring, gracious and diligent at standing with us in prayer. Those who speak gentle truths and loving encouragement in the moments we need it most. Those whom I have done the same for and will continue to stand with through life.

So next time you’re faced with an “emergency stop” moment remember – Prayer and Praise are the best weapons! Chuck on some worship music to help you focus on the God who surpasses it all and who gave everything for you; and activate those prayer warriors to stand with you in the battle.
